Among those who also narrated from him were Nuʿaym ibn Abī Ḥumayd, Yazīd ibn Kaysān, and Fuḍayl ibn Ghazwān.
He passed away during the caliphate of ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, sometime around the year 100 AH.
It is reported that he kept company with Abū Hurayrah for five years.

His personal name—according to the more common view—is identical with his kunya.
It is also said that his name was Harem; another opinion holds that his name was ʿAmr, like his father, for the latter died during his grandfather’s lifetime and Abū Zurʿah was therefore named after him.
It is said that he saw ʿAlī.
He narrated ḥadith from his grandfather, from Abū Hurayrah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, from Kharashah ibn al-Ḥurr, and from others.
Transmitters from him include his uncle Ibrāhīm; his grandsons Jarīr and Yaḥyā—the sons of Ayyūb ibn Abī Zurʿah—al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿUklī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shubruma, ʿUmārah ibn al-Qaʿqāʿ, Mūsā al-Juhanī, ʿAlī ibn Mudrik, Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Taymī, and others.
He was trustworthy, eminent, and of noble standing, possessing abundant knowledge. He accompanied his grandfather Jarīr on a delegation to Muʿāwiyah. -
