He narrated from ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān, Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ, Zayd b. Thābit, Abū Hurayra, and a number of others.
Those who transmitted from him include Abū Salama b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, Sālim Abū al-Naḍr, Bukayr b. ʿAbd Allah b. al-Ashajj and his brother Yaʿqūb, Zayd b. Aslam, and many others.
Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn and al-Nasāʾī both judged him reliable.
Muḥammad b. Saʿd⦗1⦘ said: “He was one of the secluded worshippers and ascetics, and a prolific transmitter of hadith.”
It is related that al-Walīd asked ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, “Who is the most virtuous person of his day in Medina?” He replied, “A client of Banū al-Ḥaḍramī named Busr.”
It is also reported that a man informed against Busr before al-Walīd b. ʿAbd al-Malik, claiming, “He speaks ill of you.” The caliph summoned him and questioned him. Busr said, “I never said that. O Allah, if I am truthful, then show me a sign concerning this man.” The informer was seized with tremors until he died.
Mālik said: “When Busr—may Allah have mercy on him—died, he left nothing with which to purchase even a shroud.”
I say: He passed away in the year 100 AH, and Abū Nuʿaym did not mention him in al-Ḥilyah, as though he had overlooked him.
