You are pleased. There is no power and no strength except through You.
Husayn ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās narrated to me: I heard Rabīʿah ibn ʿAbbād relate to my father, saying, “I was a young lad with my father at Minā while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing before the Arab tribes, proclaiming, ‘O sons of so-and-so, I am the Messenger of Allah sent to you. He commands you to worship Him alone, never associating anything with Him, to cast aside whatever you worship besides Him, to believe in me and affirm the truth of what I say, and to protect me until I have conveyed, on behalf of Allah, the message with which He has sent me.’
“Behind him stood a fair-skinned, cross-eyed man with two braids, wearing a cloak from ʿAdan. Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his words, that man would call out, ‘O sons of so-and-so, this fellow is only urging you to abandon al-Lāt, al-ʿUzzā and your allies from among the clan of Banū Mālik ibn Aqays for the innovation and misguidance he has brought. Do not obey him, and do not listen to him.’
“I said to my father, ‘Who is that man?’ He replied, ‘That is his uncle, ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā, Abū Lahab.’
Ibn Shihāb also told me that the Prophet ﷺ came to Kindah in their encampments, where a chief of theirs called Mulīḥ was present. He invited them to Allah and offered himself to them, but they refused him.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥuṣayn narrated to me that the Prophet ﷺ went to the tribe of Kalb in their dwellings—specifically to a branch of them known as Banū ʿAbd Allāh. He invited them to Allah and offered himself to them, even saying, ‘O sons of ʿAbd Allāh, Allah has indeed graced your father’s name.’ Still he called them to Allah, but they did not respond.
One of our companions told me that he ﷺ came to Banū Ḥanīfah in their homes, invited them to Allah and offered himself to them; no Arab tribe gave him a more offensive reply than they did.
