Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd al-Mubārakī related: Abū Shihāb narrated to us, from al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAmr, from his father, that he once went in to Ibrāhīm and said, “Abū ʿImrān.”

Ḍamrah ibn Rabīʿah said: I heard a man recount that when Ḥammād ibn Abī Sulaymān arrived in Basra, Farqad al-Sabakhī came to see him wearing a woollen robe. Ḥammād said to him, “Take off that Christianity of yours! I remember waiting for Ibrāhīm (1); he would come out dressed in safflower-dyed clothes, and we assumed that even carrion had become lawful for him. (2)”

Shuʿbah ibn Abī Maʿshar narrated from al-Nakhaʿī that he used to visit ʿĀʾishah and would see her wearing ḥibrah (striped Yemeni cloth).

Ayyūb asked, “How did he manage to enter her quarters?” He replied, “He would travel for the pilgrimage with his paternal and maternal uncles while he was still a boy who had not yet reached puberty. There was mutual affection and brotherhood among them, and the same bond existed between the two uncles and ʿĀʾishah. (3)”

Shurayk narrated, from Sulaymān ibn Yasār, from Ibrāhīm: “My maternal uncle al-Aswad brought me in to see ʿĀʾishah while I was wearing some silver ornaments. (4)”

Jarīr narrated, from Mughīrah, who said: “Ibrāhīm used to enter upon ʿĀʾishah in the company of al-Aswad and ʿAlqamah. He died at the age of fifty-seven, or thereabouts.”

Sulaym ibn Akhḍar reported: Ibn ʿAwn told us, “Ibrāhīm died somewhere between fifty and sixty.”

ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us from Mughīrah: It was said to Ibrāhīm, “Al-Ḥajjāj has killed Saʿīd ibn Jubayr.” He replied, “May Allah have mercy on him; no one comparable has been left after him.” He added: When al-Ḥajjāj heard about this
