al-Rahman; from Dawud al-ʿAttar; from Maʿmar; from Qatadah; from Anas, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The most compassionate of my community toward my community is Abu Bakr; the firmest of them in Allah’s religion is ʿUmar; the most truthful of them in modesty is ʿUthman; the most knowledgeable of them regarding the lawful and the unlawful is Muʿadh; the most proficient of them in the laws of inheritance is Zayd ibn Thabit; the best reciter among them is Ubayy. Every nation has a trustee, and the trustee of this nation is Abu ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrah.”
This is a singular (gharib) hadith.
I (the author) say: Sufyan is not an authoritative proof.
