Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

Abū Mūsā; Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān—both of them were his contemporaries—and Abū Bakr ibn Ḥafṣ al-Zuhrī.

His colleague Abū Salamah also narrated the report of ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz from ʿUrwah.

Ibn Saʿd (1) said: “ʿUrwah was trustworthy, accurate, dependable, prolific in ḥadith, a jurist, and a scholar.”

Aḥmad al-ʿIjlī said: “A Medinan, trustworthy, a righteous man who never became involved in any of the civil strife.” (2)

Yūsuf ibn al-Mājishūn reported from Ibn Shihāb who said:
“Whenever ʿUrwah narrated something to me and then ʿAmrah narrated it, ʿAmrah’s report would confirm ʿUrwah’s report in my estimation. But when I probed them both deeply, I found ʿUrwah to be an ocean that can never be drained.” (3)

Al-Aṣmaʿī related from Ibn Abī al-Zinād who said:
ʿUrwah said, “We used to say, ‘We will not keep any writing alongside the Book of Allah,’ so I erased my notebooks. By Allah, I now wish those notebooks were still with me, for the Book of Allah has remained firmly established.” (4)

ʿAlī ibn al-Mubārak al-Hunāʾī narrated from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah:
His father used to fast continually throughout the year, except on the Day of Breaking the Fast and the Day of Sacrifice, and he died while fasting. (5)

Hishām also said: My father used to say, “Many a humiliating word that I patiently endured has granted me long-lasting honor.” (6)
