He is the one whom Umm Haniʾ placed under her protection, and the Prophet ﷺ said, “We have granted protection to whomever you have granted protection.” (1)
He is also a transmitter in Sunan Ibn Majah (2).
From the spoils of Hunayn the Prophet ﷺ awarded him one hundred camels.
He was martyred in Syria, and ʿUmar later married his widow, Fatimah. Ibn Saʿd adds that ʿUmar married his daughter, Umm Hakim.
He died in the plague of ʿAmwas (3) in the year 18 AH.
Ibn al-Mubarak said: al-Aswad ibn Shayban informed us, from Abu Nawfal ibn Abi ʿAqrab, who said:
“When al-Harith ibn Hisham set out, the people of Mecca were distressed (4) and came out to escort him. He stopped…"

Abi Bakr → his father → ʿAbd al-Malik b. al-Harith b. Hisham → his father: the Prophet married Umm Salama in Shawwal and brought her to his home in Shawwal.
(3) Also pronounced ʿAmwas: a district in Palestine near Bayt al-Maqdis; some describe it as a village six miles from al-Ramla on the road to Jerusalem. The plague began there in the reign of ʿUmar b. al-Khattab and then spread throughout al-Sham, killing many Companions and others; one report puts the death toll at 25,000 Muslims. شَرِيْفاً، كَبِيْرَ القَدْرِ.
وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَجَارَتْهُ أُمُّ هَانِئ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: (قَدْ أَجَرْنَا مَنْ أَجَرْتِ (١)) .

أَعْطَاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِنْ غَنَائِمِ حُنَيْنٍ مائَةً مِنَ الإِبِلِ.
اسْتُشْهِدَ بِالشَّامِ، وَتَزَوَّجَ عُمَرُ بَعْدَهُ بِامْرَأَتِهِ فَاطِمَةَ.
وَقَالَ ابْنُ سَعْدٍ: تَزَوَّجَ عُمَرُ بِابْنَتِهِ أُمِّ حَكِيْمٍ.
مَاتَ: فِي طَاعُوْنِ عَمَوَاسَ (٣) ، سَنَةَ ثَمَانِيَ عَشْرَةَ.
ابْنُ المُبَارَكِ: أَنْبَأَنَا الأَسْوَدُ بنُ شَيْبَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي نَوْفَلٍ بنِ أَبِي عَقْرَبٍ، قَالَ:

(٢) رقم (١٩٩١) في النكاح باب متى يستحب البناء بالنساء من طريق محمد بن إسحاق عن عبد الله بن أبي بكر عن أبيه عن عبد الملك بن الحارث بن هشام عن أبيه، أن النبي ﷺ تزوج أم سلمة في شوال وجمعها إليه في شوال.
(٣) ويقال عمواس: كورة من فلسطين، بالقرب من بيت المقدس، وقيل: هي ضيعة على ستة أميال من الرملة على طريق بيت المقدس، وفيها كان ابتداء الطاعون في أيام عمر بن الخطاب ﵁، ثم فشا في أرض الشام، فمات فيه خلق كثير من الصحابة وغيرهم، وقيل: مات فيه خمسة وعشرون ألفا من المسلمين.
