He transmitted from ʿUmar, ʿAlī, and Ḥudhayfah, although it appears that these narrations are not linked by a continuous chain. He also narrated from Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allah, Usāmah ibn Zayd, Ibn ʿAbbās, and a number of others. Among those who reported from him are his son Qābūs, Ḥuṣayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, Sulaymān al-Aʿmash, and many others. More than one scholar declared him trustworthy; there is unanimous agreement on his reliability, and his reports are found in all the canonical collections. He was among those who campaigned against Constantinople with Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiyah in 50 AH. He died in 89 AH; another view says 90 AH.
