is this?’ He answered, ‘This is Adam. The dark throngs to his right and left are the souls of his descendants: those on his right are the people of Paradise, while the throngs on his left are the people of the Fire. Therefore, when he looks to his right he laughs, and when he looks to his left he weeps.’

Gabriel then ascended with me until we reached the second heaven. He said to its gatekeeper, ‘Open.’ The gatekeeper put to him the same questions that the gatekeeper of the lowest heaven had asked, and then opened it.

Anas said: He mentioned that the Prophet found in the heavens Adam, Idris, Jesus, Moses, and Abraham, though Abū Dharr did not record the exact level of each, except that he stated Adam was in the lowest heaven and Abraham in the sixth. When Gabriel and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, passed by Idris, Idris said, ‘Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous brother.’ They moved on, and I asked, ‘Who is this?’ He replied, ‘Idris.’

Then I passed by Moses, who said, ‘Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous brother.’ I asked, ‘Who is this?’ He said, ‘Moses.’

Then I passed by Jesus, who said, ‘Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous brother.’ I asked, ‘Who is this?’ He said, ‘Jesus.’

Then I passed by Abraham, who said, ‘Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous son.’ I asked, ‘Who is this?’ He said, ‘Abraham.’
