Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim narrated from Yaʿlā ibn Ḥakīm, who said:
Saʿīd ibn Jubayr remarked, “I have never seen anyone show greater reverence for the sanctity of this House or care for it more than the people of Basra. One night I saw a young woman clinging to the curtains of the Kaʿbah, calling upon her Lord, imploring, and weeping until she died.”
Its chain of transmission is sound.
Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd al-Rāzī reported: Yaʿqūb al-Qummī related to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Abī al-Mughīrah, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, who said:
“When Allah sent Adam down to the earth, there was on it only an eagle and a whale. The eagle used to retreat to the whale and pass the night with him. When the eagle saw Adam he said, ‘O Whale, something has been sent down to the earth today that walks on two legs and strikes with its hands.’
The whale replied, ‘If what you say is true, I shall find no refuge from him in the sea, nor will you on land.’ (1)”
It is also related from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr that he said, “If the remembrance of death were to leave my heart, I would fear that my heart would become corrupted.” (2)
And from him, he said, “The life of this world is merely one marketplace (3) among the marketplaces of the Hereafter.” This was transmitted by Ḍamrah ibn Rabīʿah, from Hishām (4), from him.
Ibn Fuḍayl narrated from Bukayr ibn ʿAtīq, who said:
“I offered Saʿīd ibn Jubayr a cup of honey to drink. He drank it and then said, ‘By Allah, I shall certainly be questioned about it.’
I asked, ‘Why?’
He replied, ‘Because I drank it while taking pleasure in its sweetness.’ (5)
Khalaf ibn Khalīfah narrated from his father, who said, ‘I was present at the killing of Saʿīd, and when it became apparent…’
