A report that comes close to the previous one is the narration of Ḥajjāj al-Aʿwar, from Shuʿbah:
Abū Isḥāq said to me, “Al-Shaʿbī is one or two years older than I am.” (1)
I add: Abū Isḥāq was in fact born after the year 32 AH.
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd (2) stated, “He was of Ḥimyar by origin, though his tribal affiliation is reckoned with Hamdān.”
I remark: He saw ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him—and prayed behind him,
and he heard from several of the senior Companions.
Among those from whom he transmitted are: Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, Saʿīd ibn Zayd, Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī, ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, Usāmah ibn Zayd, Abū Masʿūd al-Badri, Abū Hurayrah, Abū Saʿd, ʿĀʾishah, Jābir ibn Samurah, Ibn ʿUmar, ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn, al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh, Ibn ʿAbbās, Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Samurah, Samurah ibn Jundub, al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr, al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, Zayd ibn Arqam, Buraydah ibn al-Ḥuṣayb, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, Ḥubshī ibn Junādah, al-Ashʿath ibn Qays al-Kindī, Wahb ibn Khanbash al-Ṭāʾī, ʿUrwah ibn Muḍarris, Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, ʿAmr ibn Ḥurayth, Abū Sarīḥah al-Ghifārī, Maymūnah, Umm Salamah, Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays, Fāṭimah bint Qays, Umm Hānī, Abū Juḥayfah al-Suwaʿī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Anṣārī, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abzā, ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr, al-Miqdām ibn Maʿd Yakrib, ʿĀmir ibn Shahr, ʿUrwah ibn al-Jaʿd al-Bāriqī, ʿAwf ibn Mālik al-Ashjaʿī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muṭīʿ ibn al-Aswad al-ʿAdawī, Anas ibn Mālik, Muḥammad ibn Ṣayfī—and others besides these fifty Companions.
