Al-Wāqidī advanced an uncorroborated view concerning the year of Abū Salamah’s death and his age, saying: “He died in 104 AH, aged seventy-two.”
Al-Haytham ibn ʿAdī recorded the same date.
Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid said, “Abū Salamah came to us during the governorship of Bishr ibn Marwān, and he had married off his daughter for a dowry of one mudd of dates.”
ʿAmr ibn Dīnār related that Abū Salamah once declared, “I possess deeper juristic understanding than anyone who has ever relieved himself.” Ibn ʿAbbās retorted, “—in the latrines!” This was transmitted by Ibn ʿUyaynah from him. (1)

ʿAmr ibn Dīnār also narrated from ʿĀʾishah that she said to Abū Salamah while he was still a youth, “Your likeness is that of a fledgling rooster: it hears the cocks crowing, so it crows.” (3)
