ibn Marzūq told us; ʿImrān al-Qaṭṭān informed us, from Qatādah, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Ziyād, from Abū Hurayrah: that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Paradise is built of bricks of gold and bricks of silver.”
It was also narrated by Maṭar al-Warrāq from al-ʿAlāʾ with the same wording. Its chain of transmission is strong (1).
As for the other al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Ziyād: he is a different Basran shaykh who narrates from al-Ḥusayn; Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated from him, and al-Nasāʾī recorded his reports. Our teacher, the ḥāfiẓ Abū al-Ḥajjāj, combined the two biographies into one entry, and that is not correct.
