ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar ibn Makhzūm; after him the Prophet ﷺ married her.
Ibn Isḥāq said: Rather, Abū Hālah married her after ʿAtīq. She was a loyal and truthful supporter of Islam.
ʿĀʾishah reported: “Khadījah passed away before the obligatory prayer had been prescribed. Some say her death occurred in Ramadan, and she was buried at al-Ḥajūn. It is also said that she lived to the age of sixty-five.”
Al-Zubayr related: “The Prophet ﷺ married her when she was forty years old, and she remained with him for twenty-four years.”
Marwān ibn Muʿāwiyah al-Fazārī, narrating from Wāʾil ibn Dāwūd, from ʿAbd Allāh al-Bahī, reported that ʿĀʾishah said: “Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned Khadījah he hardly ever tired of praising her and asking forgiveness for her. One day he spoke of her, and jealousy overcame me, so I said, ‘Allah has given you in exchange an older woman.’ I saw that he became so angry that I was overwhelmed with fear, and I said to myself, ‘O Allah, if You turn Your Messenger’s anger away from me, I will never again speak ill of her.’ When the Prophet ﷺ perceived what I was feeling, he said, ‘How could you say that? By Allah, she believed in me when people disbelieved, sheltered me when people rejected me, declared me truthful when people denied me, and Allah granted me children through her while you have been deprived of them.’” ʿĀʾishah added, “He continued, morning and evening, to recall her in my presence for a whole month.”
Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, said: “I never felt jealous of any woman as I felt jealous of Khadījah because of how often I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention her. He did not marry me until three years after her death, and his Lord had commanded him to give her the glad tidings of a house in Paradise made of qasab (hollow pearls) where there is no clamour and no fatigue.” Agreed upon.
Al-Zuhrī said: “Khadījah died before the obligatory prayer was prescribed.”
