Ibn Salāmah informed us—through Abū al-Makārim al-Taymī; al-Ḥaddād informed us; Abū Nuʿaym related to us; Ibn Khallād narrated to us; al-Ḥārith ibn Abī Usāmah narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿĀʾishah narrated to us; Ḥammād—on the authority of Abū al-Tayyāḥ, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Hudhayl, from ʿAmmār—reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The rebellious faction will kill you.” (1)
A corroborating report comes from ʿAbd al-Wārith, on the authority of Abū al-Tayyāḥ.
Yaʿlā ibn ʿUbayd related to us: al-Ajlaḥ—from Ibn Abī al-Hudhayl—said, “I was with ʿUmar when a drunken old man was brought in during Ramadan. ʿUmar exclaimed, ‘Woe to you! Even our children are fasting!’ Then he ordered that the man be given eighty lashes.”
62 – Mālik ibn Aws ibn al-Ḥadathān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAwf al-Naṣrī * (ʿA)
The jurist, imam, and authoritative scholar; Abū Saʿd—some say Abū Saʿīd—the Naṣrī, originally from the Ḥijāz and resident of Madinah.
He lived during the Prophet’s lifetime ﷺ.
(1) Al-Hilya, 4/361. The report is sound and mutawatir; it was transmitted by a group of Companions: Abu Saʿid al-Khudri and Umm Salama—both versions are found in the two Sahihs—Qatadah b. al-Nuʿman (al-Nasaʾi), Abu Hurayrah (al-Tirmidhi), ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAmr b. al-ʿAs (al-Nasaʾi), as well as ʿUthman b. ʿAffan, Hudhayfah, Abu Ayyub, Abu Rafiʿ, Khuzaymah b. Thabit, Muʿawiyah, and ʿAmr b. al-ʿAs. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar notes in Fath al-Bari, 1/452: “All these narrations are recorded by al-Tabarani and others, and most of their chains are authentic or hasan,” adding that still more transmitters could be mentioned. The hadith is a prophetic sign, an evident virtue for ʿAli and ʿAmmar (may Allah be pleased with them), and a rebuttal of the Nasibis who claim that ʿAli erred in his wars.
