He narrated from: Abu Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, ʿUmar, Abu Dharr, Ibn Masʿūd, Abu Mūsā al-Ashʿarī, and a number of others.
Narrated from him: Aslam al-Kūfī, Zubayd al-Yāmī, Ḥuṣayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, and others.
Yahya ibn Maʿīn declared him reliable.
It has reached us that he stayed in prostration to Allah until the soil had worn away his forehead.
Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah said, “I heard ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib say, ‘I saw Murrah al-Hamdānī’s prayer-place hollowed out like the kneeling spot of a camel.’”
ʿAṭāʾ—or someone else—also reported that Murrah used to perform six hundred units of prayer every day and night.
I (the author) say: This saintly man found hardly any time to disseminate knowledge, and for that reason his narrations are few. After all, what is the purpose of knowledge other than its fruit?

22 – al-Ḥārith ibn Qays al-Juʿfī al-Kūfī * (S)
A devoted worshipper and jurist of the early generation, long since deceased.
He accompanied ʿAlī and Ibn Masʿūd, and transmitted only a few reports.
Narrated from him: Khaythamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān (2), who quoted him as saying:
“If you are in prayer and Satan says to you, ‘You are merely showing off,’ then lengthen the prayer still further.”
