Al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyād said: Abū Qurrah al-Sadūsī (1) narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, who related:
At Minā, ʿUmar called out from the pulpit, “O people of Qarn!”
Some elders rose, and he asked, “Is there among you anyone named Uways?”
One of them replied, “Commander of the Believers, that man is regarded as mad; he lives out in the deserts, keeps no company and finds no company.”
ʿUmar said, “That is exactly the man I am seeking. When you go back, look for him and convey to him my greetings and the greetings of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”
When the message reached him he said, “The Commander of the Believers has recognized me and made my name known. O Allah, bless Muhammad and his family; peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.”
He then wandered off, and for a long time no trace of him was found. He reappeared during the days of ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him—and was martyred with him at Ṣiffīn. When they examined him they discovered forty-odd wounds on his body (2).
Hishām ibn Ḥassān transmitted from al-Ḥasan, who said: “Through the intercession of Uways more people will be brought out of the Fire than belong to the tribes of Rabīʿah and Muḍar.”
Khalid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq, from Ibn Abī al-Jadʿāʾ, who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “By the intercession of a man from my community, more people will enter Paradise (3) than the entire tribe of Banū Tamīm (4).”
Abū Aḥmad ibn ʿAdī said in al-Kāmil: “Uways is trustworthy, truthful, and Mālik…"
