123 – Rabiʿah ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Hudayr al-Qurashi* (Bukhari, Abu Dawud)
A Tamimi by tribe, a Medinan by residence.
He was born during the Prophet’s lifetime ﷺ, and it is quite possible that he actually saw him.
He narrated from ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab and Talhah ibn ʿUbayd Allah, though his transmitted material is scant.
Those who reported from him include his two nephews—Muḥammad and Abu Bakr, the sons of al-Munkadir—together with ʿUthman ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥman al-Taymi, Rabiʿah al-Raʾy, and others.
Ibn Ḥibbān listed him among the reliable transmitters in al-Thiqat (1).
He died in 93 AH at the age of eighty-seven.
This would place his birth in the year of al-Hudaybiyah, 6 AH.
His grandfather al-Hudayr was Ibn ʿAbd al-ʿUzza ibn ʿAmir ibn al-Ḥarith ibn Ḥaritha ibn Saʿd ibn Taym ibn Murrah ibn Kaʿb ibn Luʾayy.
I have not found anyone who numbered ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Hudayr among those who embraced Islam at the Conquest; it seems, therefore, that he died before it—though he may have lived on until al-Munkadir was later born to him. Allah knows best.
124 – Rabiʿah ibn ʿIbad al-Dili, of the Hijaz.
