Ibn Saʿd said, “ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Sunābihī was trustworthy, though he transmitted only a small number of reports (1).
Others have said that he possesses narrations which he relates in mursal form.
Some scholars fall into error regarding him and say, ‘ʿAbd Allah al-Sunābihī,’ while others call him, ‘Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Sunābihī.’
Marthad ibn ʿAbd Allah relates from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn ʿUsaylah, who said, “The Prophet ﷺ missed me by only five nights; he passed away while I was at al-Juhfah (2).”
Rajāʾ ibn Ḥaywah, on the authority of Maḥmūd ibn al-Rabīʿ (3), said, “We were with ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit when al-Sunābihī approached. ʿUbādah said, ‘Whoever would like to look at a man who seems to have been lifted above the seven heavens and then acted upon what he witnessed, let him look at this man (4).’ ” Ibn ʿAwn transmitted this narration from Rajāʾ.
Abu ʿAbd Rabb said: “Al-Sunābihī addressed us in Damascus when he was on his death-bed (5).”
