—he was struck. Ṣilah then loosed arrows over his body—he was a skilled archer—until the enemy scattered. He advanced, stood over him, prayed for him, and then fought on until he himself was killed. ⦗1⦘
I say: This battle took place in the year 62 AH—may Allah have mercy on them both.
114 – Umm Kulthūm bint ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib al-Hāshimiyyah,
grand-daughter of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Hāshim, and full sister of Ḥasan and Ḥusayn.
She was born around the year 6 AH, saw the Prophet ﷺ, yet related nothing directly from him.
ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb proposed marriage to her while she was still young. When he was asked, “What do you want with her?” he replied, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Every bond of marriage and every lineage will be severed on the Day of Resurrection except my bond of marriage and my lineage.’” ⦗2⦘

(2) An authentic hadith: al-Hakim recorded it (al-Mustadrak, 3/142) through the chain of al-Sari ibn Khuzayma, from Muʿalla ibn Rashid, from Wuhayb ibn Khalid, from Jaʿfar ibn Muhammad, from his father, from ʿAli ibn al-Husayn, concerning ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab… Al-Hakim judged the isnad sound and noted that al-Bukhari and Muslim did not include it, but al-Dhahabi, in his Mukhtasar, objected that the chain is broken. Ibn Saʿd transmitted it in al-Tabaqat (8/463) through Anas ibn ʿAyyad al-Laythi, from Jaʿfar ibn Muhammad, from his father, concerning ʿUmar… Al-Suyuti cited it in al-Durr al-Manthur (5/15), adding that it is also found in the collections of al-Bazzar, al-Tabarani, al-Bayhaqi, and al-Diyaʾ al-Maqdisi (al-Mukhtara). Al-Haythami, in Majmaʿ al-Zawaʾid (9/173), said that al-Tabarani reported it in both his al-Awsat and al-Kabir.
