Mahdi ibn Maymun related: Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Yaʿqub told us, on the authority of al-Hasan ibn Saʿd, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar, who said:
“One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ let me ride behind him. He then confided to me a word that I shall tell no one. He entered an orchard, and there was a camel there. When the camel saw the Prophet ﷺ it groaned, and tears flowed from its eyes.” (1)
Ḍamrah ibn Rabiʿah, from ʿAli ibn Abi Ḥamlah, narrated:
“ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar paid a formal visit to Yazid, and Yazid ordered that two million be given to him.” (2)
I say: That is not a great sum—the bounty of the ruler of this world to a man more entitled to the caliphate than he.
Musʿab al-Zubayri said: “Jaʿfar emigrated to Abyssinia, and Asmaʾ bore him ʿAbd Allah, ʿAwn (3), and Muhammad (4).”
Ismaʿil ibn ʿAyyash, from Hisham ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, reported:
“ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar and Ibn al-Zubayr pledged allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ when they were seven years old. When the Prophet ﷺ saw them he smiled, extended his hand, and accepted their pledge.” (5)
