93 – ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar ibn Abi Talib al-Hashimi* (ʿ)
He is ʿAbd Manaf ibn ʿAbd al-Muttalib ibn Hashim.
A noble scholar, Abū Jaʿfar al-Qurashi al-Hashimi, born in Abyssinia and resident in Medina—the generous son of the generous martyr endowed with two wings.
He enjoyed both Companionship and hadith transmission and is classed among the younger Companions.
His father was martyred at the Battle of Muʾtah, whereupon the Prophet ﷺ took charge of him, and he grew up in the Prophet’s care.
He also narrated from his uncle ʿAli and from his mother Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays.
Among those who reported from him are his sons Ismāʿīl, Isḥāq, and Muʿāwiyah; Abū Jaʿfar al-Bāqir; Saʿd ibn Ibrāhīm; al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad; Ibn Abī Mulaykah; al-Shaʿbī; ʿUrwah; ʿAbbās ibn Sahl ibn Saʿd; ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl; and others.
He was the last member of Banū Hāshim to have seen and accompanied the Prophet ﷺ.
He paid formal visits to Muʿāwiyah and later to ʿAbd al-Malik.
A man of great stature—noble, generous, open-handed, and well-suited to leadership.
