He is counted among the younger Companions. He saw the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—addressing the people at Mina while seated on a camel. He lived to an advanced age. Those who narrated from him include Hanbal ibn ʿAbd Allah and ʿIkrima ibn ʿAmmar. I have received his report with a high-level chain of transmission.
Abu ʿAmir al-ʿAqadi (1) said: “ʿIkrima ibn ʿAmmar narrated to us, from al-Hirmās ibn Ziyād, who said: ‘I saw the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—on the Day of Sacrifice, preaching on his she-camel al-ʿAdbaʾ.’” (2)
I say: I think al-Hirmās remained alive until about the year 90 AH.
90 – Qudāmah ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmmār al-Kilābī al-ʿĀmirī * (D, S, Q)
He is likewise counted among the junior Companions who only had a visual encounter; he saw the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—stoning the jamrahs. Abu al-ʿAbbās al-Daghūlī gave him the kunya Abū ʿImrān.
Among those who transmitted from him are Sufyān al-Thawrī, Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī, Abū ʿĀṣim, and others, through Ayman (3) ibn Nābil, from Qudāmah ibn ʿAbd Allah, who said:
“I saw the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—stone the jamrah while riding a reddish camel, with no striking, no driving, no whipping, and no calling out, ‘Move, move!’” (4)
