Al-Haytham ibn ʿAdī, however, dissented and said that he died in 80 AH.
81 – Jubayr ibn al-Huwayrith ibn Naqīd ibn Bujayr ibn ʿAbd ibn Quṣayy ibn Kilāb al-Qurashī*
It is also said that his lineage is the same, but with Bujayr omitted.
He was a young Companion who merely saw the Prophet without transmitting any hadith from him.
He narrated from Abū Bakr and ʿUmar.
Those who narrated from him include Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿīd ibn Yarbuʿ.
A report on his authority was recorded by Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah; he related it to us from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, but he erred and said:
“From Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yarbuʿ, from Jubayr ibn al-Huwayrith, who said: ‘I saw Abū Bakr standing on Qazḥ…,’” and then he quoted the rest of the hadith. (1)
Al-Zubayr ibn Bakkār said: Jubayr’s father, al-Huwayrith, was among those whose blood the Prophet ﷺ declared forfeit on the Day of the Conquest.
It is also related from Jubayr that he was present at the Battle of Yarmūk, where he heard Abū Sufyān urging the army to strive in Allah’s cause. (2)
