Junādah ibn Marwān relates: Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim al-Ḥimṣī narrated to us—having heard it from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr—who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once ate hays with us, then invoked blessings for us. He turned toward me while I was still a boy, stroked my head and said, ‘This lad will live out an entire century.’ He did in fact live one hundred years (1).”
A similar report is transmitted by Salamah ibn Ḥawwās from Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim. He adds: “I was with Ibn Busr in his village and asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, how long is a qarn (century)?’ He replied, ‘One hundred years’ (2).”
In Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, through the narration of Ḥarīz ibn ʿUthmān, it is recorded that he asked ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr, “Was the Prophet an old man?” He answered, “In the tuft beneath his lower lip there were a few white hairs” (3).
Yaḥyā ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Wuḥāḍī reports: Umm Hāshim al-Ṭāʾiyyah told us, “I saw ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr performing ablution, and his soul departed in that very state—may Allah be pleased with him” (4).
Al-Wāqidī said: “He died in 88 AH, the last Companion to pass away in Syria, at the age of ninety-four.” A number of other authorities likewise date his death to 88 AH. Abū Zurʿah al-Dimashqī (5) held that he died before the year 100 AH.
