He transmitted only a handful of ḥadiths and his time in the Prophet’s company was brief; nevertheless, his two brothers—ʿAṭiyyah and al-Ṣammāʾ—and their father also shared in that companionship. (1)
Those who narrated from him include Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Yaḥṣubī, Rāshid ibn Saʿd, Khālid ibn Maʿdān, Abū al-Zāhiriyyah, Sulaym ibn ʿĀmir, Muḥammad ibn Ziyād al-Alhānī, Ḥassān ibn Nūḥ, Ṣafwān ibn ʿAmr, and Ḥarīz (2) ibn ʿUthmān—all of them scholars from Ḥimṣ.
He also joined Muʿāwiyah in the expedition to the island of Cyprus during the caliphate of ʿUthmān.
Al-Baghawī relates: “Ziyād ibn Ayyūb told us; Maysarah narrated to us; Ḥarīz ibn ʿUthmān reported: I saw ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr with his clothes drawn up, his cloak worn over his tunic, his hair parted so that it covered his ears, and his moustache trimmed even with his upper lip. We used to stand around him in amazement.” (3)
Ṣafwān ibn ʿAmr said: “I noticed the mark of prostration on the forehead of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr.”
Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Ziyād al-Alhānī narrated—from his father—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “This boy will live a full century.” He added, “And he did indeed live one hundred years.”
Shurayḥ ibn Yazīd al-Ḥaḍramī heard this directly from him.
ʿIṣām ibn Khālid reported: al-Ḥasan ibn Ayyūb al-Ḥaḍramī told us, “ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr showed me a mole on the side of his head. I placed my finger on it, and he said, ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ put his finger on this very spot and then declared: You shall certainly live to see a full century.’” Aḥmad recorded this in the Musnad.
