He left behind a number of hadiths.
Those who narrated from him include: Ibrāhīm ibn Muslim al-Hajarī, Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Saksakī, Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, Sulaymān al-Aʿmash, Abū Isḥāq al-Shaybānī, Ṭalḥah ibn Muṣarrif, ʿAmrū ibn Murrāh, Abū Yaʿfūr Waqdān, Mujzaʾah ibn Zāhir, and others.
It is said that al-Aʿmash never heard him directly, even though they lived in the same town; when Ibn Abī Awfā passed away, al-Aʿmash was only twenty-odd years old.
ʿAbd Allāh obtained the Prophet’s ﷺ supplication when he brought his father’s zakāh to the Prophet ﷺ, who prayed: “O Allah, bless the family of Abū Awfā.”
His eyesight had failed him due to old age.
Shuʿbah—through Sulaymān al-Shaybānī—from Ibn Abī Awfā, who was among those who pledged allegiance beneath the Tree, reported:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to prepare nabīdh in green earthenware jars.” (1)
Shuʿbah—through ʿAmrū ibn Murrāh—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā narrated:
“Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ received charity, he would say, ‘O Allah, bless them.’ My father brought him the charity of his people, so he said, ‘O Allah, bless the family of Abū Awfā.’ In another wording: ‘My father brought him our charity.’” (2)
