I was taken to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when I was still a boy. He prayed that I be blessed, wiped his hand over my head, and with his bow traced out for me a house in Madinah; then he said, “Shall I not add even more for you? (1)”
Maʿbad ibn Khālid also related—from ʿAmr ibn Ḥuraith—that he said, “ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered me to lead the women in prayer during Ramadan.”
Al-Wāqidī said: Afterwards, Ziyād ibn Abīh and his son ʿUbayd Allah ibn Ziyād appointed ʿAmr ibn Ḥuraith as governor of Kūfah. He amassed a tremendous fortune and many children, among them: ʿAbd Allah, Jaʿfar, Yaḥyā, Khālid, Umm al-Walīd, Umm ʿAbd Allah, Umm Salamah, Saʿīd, Mughīrah, ʿUthmān, and Ḥuraith.
Al-Wāqidī also said: The Prophet ﷺ passed away when ʿAmr ibn Ḥuraith was twelve years old. (2)
His brother Saʿīd ibn Ḥuraith witnessed the Conquest of Mecca while still a youth.
