He likewise narrated hadith from his mother. Those who transmitted reports from him include Saʿid ibn al-Musayyib, ʿUrwah, Wahb ibn Kaysan, Qudamah ibn Ibrahim, Thabit al-Bunani, Abu Wajzah Yazid ibn ʿUbayd al-Saʿdi, his own son Muhammad ibn ʿUmar, and others. Through milk-kinship, the Prophet ﷺ was his uncle. It is related from Ibn al-Zubayr that he said, “ʿUmar is two years older than I am.” It is also said that when ʿAli asked Umm Salamah to accompany him on the march for the Camel engagement, she sent her son ʿUmar in her stead.
He lived to an advanced age and became the elder of the Banu Makhzum. Muhammad ibn Saʿd states that he died during the caliphate of ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwan, while Ibn al-Athir records that his death occurred in 83 AH (1).
And his brother:

He, too, lived a long life but did not transmit even a single hadith. He is the one who gave his mother, Umm Salamah, in marriage to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (2); after the ʿUmrat al-Qaḍāʾ (3) the Prophet ﷺ rewarded him by marrying him to his uncle’s daughter, Ummamah.
