Allah! Your servant Anas—pray to Allah for him.”
He said, “O Allah, increase his wealth and his children.”
One of my relatives later told me that more than a hundred of my direct descendants had already been buried. (1)
Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid narrated—from Thābit, from Anas—who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed for me, saying, ‘O Allah, increase his wealth and his children, and prolong his life.’
By Allah, He has indeed multiplied my wealth: one of my orchards bears fruit twice a year, and one hundred and six people have been born of my own loins.” (2)
Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Muʿaddil related to us in 692 AH; he said: Muḥammad ibn Khalaf narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥāfiẓ narrated to us; Aḥmad and Muḥammad narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Qurazī narrated to us; Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥakīm narrated to us; Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī narrated to us; the Anṣārī narrated to us; Ḥumayd narrated to me, from Anas:
“The Prophet ﷺ came to visit Umm Sulaym. She offered him dates and clarified butter, but he said, ‘Put your dates back into their bowl and your butter back into its skin-bottle, for I am fasting.’
He then stood in a corner of the house and led us in a non-obligatory prayer. Afterward he prayed for Umm Sulaym and the members of her household. She said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have a special request.’
He asked, ‘What is it?’
She replied, ‘Your servant Anas.’
He left out no blessing—of this world or the next—without invoking it for me; then he said, ‘O Allah, grant him wealth and children, and bless him in them.’
Anas continued, ‘I am now among the wealthiest of the Helpers, and my daughter Umaynah has informed me that, by the time al-Ḥajjāj reached Basra, one hundred and twenty-nine of my descendants had been buried.’ (3)
