nor do we belie them; to You belongs all praise.” Zuhayr is weak.
ʿAmr ibn Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ narrated on the authority of his grandfather Saʿīd, who said: “Abū Hurayrah used to follow the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carrying a small water-skin for his ablution.” He then related the report in which the Prophet ﷺ said, “The jinn of Naṣībīn came to me and asked me for provisions, so I prayed to Allah that they would never pass by dung or a bone without finding food upon it.” Al-Bukhārī recorded this. This narration also belongs to the discussion of his ﷺ courage and strength of heart.
Likewise is the ḥadīth transmitted by Muḥammad ibn Ziyād, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “A powerful demon from among the jinn lunged at me last night, intent on disrupting my prayer, but Allah enabled me to overpower him. I seized him and wanted to tie him to one of the pillars of the mosque so that all of you could see him. Then I remembered the supplication of my brother Solomon: ‘My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom that will not be granted to anyone after me’ (Ṣād 38:35), so I sent him away in disgrace.” In another wording: “I seized him and throttled him,” meaning that he strangled him. The report is agreed upon.
