Maysarah transmitted it from one of al-‘Abbās’s descendants … and he recounted the same report (1).
Zakariyyā ibn Abī Zā’idah narrated, on the authority of al-Shaʿbī:
Al-‘Abbās once entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and saw no one with him. Later his son ʿAbd Allāh said to him, “I actually saw a man with him.” Al-‘Abbās therefore asked the Prophet ﷺ about it, and he replied, “That was Gabriel (2).”
This chain is mursal (missing the Companion).
Hibbān ibn ʿAlī narrated—from Rushdīn (3) ibn Kurayb, from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbās—who said:
“I came to my maternal aunt Maymūnah and said, ‘I would like to spend the night with you.’ She answered, ‘How can you spend the night here when there is only one mattress?’ I replied, ‘I have no need of it; I shall spread my cloak on the floor, and as for the pillow, I will place my head behind yours on the far side of it.’
“The Prophet ﷺ then arrived, and Maymūnah told him what Ibn ʿAbbās had said. He remarked, ‘He is the elder of Quraysh.’”
Its chain of transmission is weak (4).
I recited this before Isḥāq ibn Ṭāriq, who said: Ibn Khalīl has informed you; al-Labbān informed us; Abū ʿAlī al-Muqriʾ informed us; Abū Nuʿaym narrated to us; Ḥabīb narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh al-Baghawī narrated to us; Dāwūd ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; Nāfiʿ ibn ʿUmar narrated to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Mulaykah, who said:
“Ibn ʿAbbās was asked, ‘How far did Joseph go in his intention?’ He replied, ‘He was seated, untying his girdle, when he was called out: O Joseph! Do not be like a bird that possesses feathers, but when it commits fornication ends up sitting featherless.’” (5)
