Ibn ʿUyaynah said: My grandmother—Umm Abī—narrated to me:
“I met two men who had been present at Husayn’s killing. One of them suffered such an abnormal elongation of his private part that he had to wrap it up, while the other would be handed an entire water-skin and would drink it dry.” (1)
Hammad ibn Zayd reported from Maʿmar:
“The first time al-Zuhri became publicly known was when he spoke in the gathering of al-Walid. Al-Walid asked, ‘Which of you knows what happened to the stones of Bayt al-Maqdis on the day Husayn was killed?’ Al-Zuhri replied, ‘I was informed that no stone was turned over except that fresh blood was found beneath it.’” (2)
Hammad ibn Salamah narrated from ʿAli ibn Zayd, from Anas, who said:
“When Husayn was killed, his head was brought to Ibn Ziyad. Ibn Ziyad began tapping his front teeth with a cane and said, ‘He had a handsome set of teeth.’ I said, ‘By Allah, you have angered me. I myself saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kissing the very place in his mouth that you are striking with your cane.’” (3)
Al-Hakim (4) relates in al-Kuna: Abu Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd told us; Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ʿUmar al-Hanafi told us; ʿUmar ibn Yūnus told us; Sulaymān ibn Abī Sulaymān al-Zuhri told us; Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr told us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAmr told me; Shaddād ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated:
“I heard Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ when Husayn’s head was brought in. A man from Syria cursed him, so Wāthilah grew enraged, stood, and said, ‘By Allah, I shall never cease loving ʿAlī and his two sons after I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in…’”
