From Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, who said:
“I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while al-Hasan and al-Husayn were playing on his chest. I asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, do you love them?’ He replied, ‘How could I not love them when they are my two basil plants from this worldly life.’”
Al-Tabarani recorded this in his Muʿjam (1).
Al-Harith also narrated from ʿAli, in a report traced back to the Prophet: “Al-Hasan and al-Husayn are the chiefs of the youths of Paradise (2).” It is likewise related from Shurayḥ, from ʿAli.
