Abū al-Malīḥ al-Raqqī said: Hāshim al-Juʿfī narrated to us, saying:
“Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiyah boasted before al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī. His father said to him, ‘You dared to vie with al-Ḥasan?’
He replied, ‘Yes.’
Muʿāwiyah said, ‘Perhaps you imagine that your mother is like his mother, or that your grandfather is like his grandfather. As for your father and his father, they have already presented their case before Allah, and Allah ruled in your father’s favor against his father.’ (1)
Zuhayr ibn Muʿāwiyah reported: ʿUbayd Allah ibn al-Walīd narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr narrated:
Ibn ʿAbbās said, “Of everything that slipped away from me in my youth, nothing grieves me except that I did not perform the pilgrimage on foot. Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī performed twenty-five pilgrimages walking, while prize camels were led alongside him. He also divided his wealth for the sake of Allah three times—so generously that he would give away the leather boot and keep the sandal.” (2)

Rajāʾ narrated from al-Ḥasan:

Isrāʾīl narrated from Abū Isḥāq, from Ḥārithah, from ʿAlī:
