from his father—that the Prophet ﷺ took al-Hasan, kissed him, then turned to those present and said, “A child is a cause of stinginess and cowardice.” (1)
Kamil Abū al-ʿAlāʾ narrated—from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah—who said:
“We were with the Prophet ﷺ during the ʿIshāʾ prayer. Whenever he prostrated, al-Hasan and al-Ḥusayn would climb onto his back; when he raised his head, he would lift them off with gentle care, and when he prostrated again, they would return. After he finished the prayer I asked, ‘Shall I take them to their mother?’ He replied—then a flash of lightning appeared, and they remained within its light until they entered upon their mother. (2)
“It was related by Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī and Asbāṭ ibn Muḥammad from him.”
Zayd ibn al-Ḥubāb reported—from Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid—that ʿAbd Allah ibn Buraydah narrated to him, from his father, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was giving a sermon when al-Hasan and al-Ḥusayn approached, wearing two red shirts, stumbling and getting up again. He stepped down, picked them up, and placed them in front of him. Then he said, ‘Allah has spoken the truth: “Your wealth and your children are only a trial” (Surah al-Taghābun, 64:15). I saw these two and could not restrain myself.’ He then resumed his sermon. (3)
Abū Shihāb—Masrūḥ—reported, from al-Thawrī, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir, who said:
“I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ while he was walking on all fours with al-Hasan and al-Ḥusayn riding on his back, and he was saying, ‘What an excellent camel is your camel, and what excellent riders you are!’ (4)
Masrūḥ is lenient. (5)
