This Imām was a noble master: handsome, striking, intelligent, dignified, generous, widely praised, virtuous, devout, God-fearing, modest, and held in high esteem.

Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq narrates that ʿAlī once said, “People of Kūfah, do not marry your women to al-Ḥasan, for he is a frequent divorcer.”
A man replied, “By Allah, we shall marry him; whatever pleases him he will keep, and whatever displeases him he will release.”
Ibn Sīrīn said: Al-Ḥasan married a woman and sent her one hundred slave-girls, each accompanied by one thousand dirhams.⦗2⦘ He would sometimes give a single man one hundred thousand dirhams.
It is reported that he performed the pilgrimage fifteen times, many of them on foot from Medina to Mecca while his finest riding camels were led beside him.
Al-Ḥākim records in his Mustadrak—through ʿAmr ibn Murrah, from ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Ḥārith, from Zuhayr ibn al-Aqmar al-Bakrī—that:
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī once stood to address the people. A man from the tribe of Azd Shanūʾah rose and declared, “I testify that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seat him in his lap and say, ‘Whoever loves me, let him love him; and let those who are present convey this to those who are absent.’”⦗3⦘
