Abu Isḥāq narrated—on the authority of al-Barāʾ—who said:
“I and Ibn ʿUmar were brought before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Badr, but he considered us too young.” (1)
Mujāhid said: Ibn ʿUmar was present at the Conquest when he was twenty years old.
Sālim reported from his father, who said:
“In the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, whenever a man saw a dream he would relate it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I was an unmarried youth and used to sleep in the mosque.
I dreamt that two angels came to me and took me to the Fire. It was folded in like the mouth of a well, with side walls like those of a well, and inside it I saw people whom I recognised.
I began saying, ‘I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire!’
Then an angel met us and said, ‘Do not be alarmed.’
I told the dream to Ḥafṣah, and Ḥafṣah related it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, ‘What an excellent man ʿAbd Allāh is, if only he would pray during the night.’ After that he would sleep only a little of the night.” (2)
Nāfiʿ transmitted a similar report, in which he said: “Indeed ʿAbd Allāh is a righteous man.”
Saʿīd ibn Bashīr narrated—from Qatādah, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Ibn ʿUmar—who said:
“I was with the Prophet ﷺ in a palm-grove. Abū Bakr sought permission to enter, and the Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Let him in and give him the glad tidings of Paradise.’ Then ʿUmar did likewise, and then ʿUthmān, about whom he said, ‘Give him the glad tidings of Paradise after a trial that will befall him.’ He entered weeping and laughing.
ʿAbd Allāh said, ‘And I, O Prophet of Allah?’ He replied, ‘You will be with your father.’” (3)
