Quran raises some people and casts others down.’ (1)
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān also transmitted hadith from Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, and ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir.
Those who narrated from him include his two sons, ʿAbd Allah and Saʿīd, as well as al-Shaʿbī, ʿAlqamah ibn Marthad, Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī, and others. He lived in Kufa.
Ibn al-Athīr relates in his History (2) that ʿAlī — may Allah be pleased with him — appointed ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abzā over Khurasan.
It is also reported from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb that he said, ‘Ibn Abzā is among those whom Allah has elevated by the Quran.’
I say: It appears to me that he lived until a few years into the seventies.
