Al-Aʿmash said, “Abū Isḥāq narrated to us: ‘I saw al-Barāʾ wearing a gold ring set with a ruby.’” (1)
His Musnad comprises 305 hadiths. Twenty-two of his narrations appear in the two Ṣaḥīḥs, with al-Bukhārī alone transmitting 15 and Muslim alone six.
(1) Ibn Saʿd records it in al-Tabaqat, 4/368, through the chain: al-Fadl b. Dukayn—Yunus b. Abi Ishaq, Shuʿbah, and Malik—from Abu al-Safar Saʿid b. Muhammad, who said: “I saw al-Baraʾ b. ʿAzib wearing a gold ring.” The isnad is sound, as al-Hafiz confirms in Fath al-Bari, 10/368. A narration in the two Sahihs, however, reports that he forbade wearing gold. Some scholars therefore interpret the prohibition as merely discouraging (makruh), while others hold that al-Baraʾ viewed it as a personal exception; see Fath al-Bari.
الأَعْمَشُ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ: رَأَيْتُ عَلَى البَرَاءِ خَاتَماً مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِيْهِ يَاقُوْتَةٌ (١) .
(مُسْنَدُهُ) : ثَلاَثُ مائَةٍ وَخَمْسَةُ أَحَادِيْثَ.
لَهُ فِي (الصَّحِيْحَيْنِ) : اثْنَانِ وَعِشْرُوْنَ حَدِيْثاً.
وَانْفَرَدَ البُخَارِيُّ: بِخَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ حَدِيْثاً، وَمُسْلِمٌ: بِسِتَّةٍ.

وإسناده صحيح كما قال الحافظ في " الفتح " ١٠ / ٣٦٨، وحديث النهي مروي عنه في " الصحيحين " وقد قيل: إنه حمل النهي على التنزيه، أو أنه كان يرى أن ذلك خصوصية له انظر " الفتح ".
