Abū Khālid al-Wālibī, Ziyād ibn ʿIlāqah, Ḥuṣayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī, Abū ʿAwn Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd (1) Allah al-Thaqafī, and his cousin ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ.
Both he and his father were confederates of the clan of Zuhrah. In Kufa he owned a house and left descendants. He took part in the conquest of al-Madāʾin, and from the children he left behind were Khālid, Ṭalḥah, and Sālim.
Shuʿbah transmitted from Simāk, from Jābir ibn Samura, who said:
“The Prophet ﷺ used to pass by us and wipe our cheeks. One day he came by and wiped my cheek, and the cheek he touched became the more handsome.” (2)
Ibn Saʿd (3) said: Jābir ibn Samura died during the governorship of Bishr ibn Marwān over Iraq.
Khalīfah said: He passed away in the year 76 AH. (4)
Abū ʿUbayd al-Qāsim ibn Sallām said: He died in the year 66 AH, but the first view is the sounder.

Some children came up to him and he began to wipe the cheek of each one, one after another. When he wiped my cheek I felt his hand cool—or fragrant—as though it had just come out of a perfumer’s satchel.”

(4) Al-Tabaqat, pp. 57 and 132, states that he died during the governorship of Bishr ibn Marwan, the second passage adding the year 73 AH. In his Tarikh, p. 273, Ibn Saʿd notes that Bishr assumed authority over Iraq in 74 AH and that Jabir ibn Samura al-Suwaʾi died under his rule. Tahdhib and related works, citing Khalifa, place the death in 73 AH, but Ibn Hajar observes that another report from Khalifa gives the date as 76 AH.
