of Resurrection; they will precede the wealthy by a full five hundred years. During that time these (the poor) will already be enjoying bliss in Paradise, while those (the rich) are still being called to account.”
Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān also reported it from al-Muʿallā.
Abū Dāwūd alone recorded the ḥadīth (1).
The Musnad of Abū Saʿīd contains 1,170 ḥadīths. Of these, forty-three appear in both al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Al-Bukhārī transmits sixteen that are unique to him, while Muslim has fifty-two that he alone relates.
29 – Safīnah, the freedman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ – * (M, 4)
Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. He had been a slave of Umm Salamah; she emancipated him on the condition that he serve the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for as long as he lived (2).
(1) No. 3666, Book of Knowledge, chapter “On Story-tellers.” Concerning al-Alaʾ b. Bashir, Ibn al-Madini says: “He is unknown; no one transmits from him except al-Muʿalla.” Ibn Hibban, however, lists him among the reliable narrators, and the rest of the transmitters in the chain are trustworthy.
On the same subject there is a hadith from Abu Hurayra reported by Ahmad 2/296, al-Tirmidhi 2354, and Ibn Majah 4122 with the wording: “The poor among the Muslims will enter Paradise half a day—that is, five hundred years—before the rich.” Its isnad is sound; al-Tirmidhi declared it sahih, as did Ibn Hibban (no. 2567).

The chain is sound. Abu Dawud and al-Tabarani add: faqultu: in lam tashtariti ʿalayya ma faraqt Rasul Allah ma ʿishtu, faʾʿtaqatni wa-sh-taratat ʿalayya (“I said, ‘Had you not imposed that stipulation on me, I would never have left the Messenger of Allah as long as I lived.’ She then set me free and stipulated the condition upon me.”).

٢٩ - سَفِيْنَةُ مَوْلَى رَسُوْلِ اللهِ ﷺ - * (م، ٤)
أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، كَانَ عَبْداً لأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، فَأَعْتَقَتْهُ، وَشَرَطَتْ عَلَيْهِ خِدْمَةَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا عَاشَ (٢) .
