Allah and that you are the servant of Allah and His Messenger.’

Yunus ibn Bukayr also transmitted this report from Ibn Ishaq, and in his wording he stated: the husband of ʿUmar’s sister was Saʿid ibn Zayd ibn ʿAmr.

Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated from ʿAmr, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: “I was standing on a rooftop when I saw the people gathered around a man, saying, ‘ʿUmar has abandoned the religion! ʿUmar has abandoned the religion!’ Al-ʿAs ibn Wāʾil then arrived wearing a cloak of silk brocade and said, ‘If ʿUmar has abandoned his religion, I guarantee him my protection.’ The people thereupon dispersed, and I was amazed at his authority.” Al-Bukhari recorded this report from Ibn al-Madini, from him.
