Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

He was a Companion, and a ḥadīth is narrated from him by ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Nawfal al-Hāshimī (1).
He also transmitted another report on the authority of ʿAlī.
Muṣʿab al-Zubayrī said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed Abū Sufyān ibn al-Ḥārith to marry his daughter to ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Rabīʿah, and he did so.”
He settled in Syria during ʿUmar’s caliphate.
Shabbāb said: “ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib died during the rule of Yazīd.”
Al-Ṭabarānī said: “He died in the year 61 AH.”
I say: he owned a large house in Damascus—Allah knows best.
