Among those who transmitted reports from him were Jubayr ibn Nufayr, ʿUrwa ibn al-Zubayr, and others.
Ibn Saʿd said: “He was resolute and awe-inspiring.”
Al-Zuhrī remarked: “He used to command what is right and forbid what is wrong. Whenever ʿUmar witnessed something objectionable, he would say, ‘So long as I and Hishām ibn Ḥakīm are alive, this will never be allowed’ (1).”
It is also said that the Prophet ﷺ wrestled with him once and threw him.
Ibn Saʿd further stated that he died at the very beginning of Muʿāwiyah’s caliphate.
14 – Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah al-Anṣārī al-Sālimī al-Madanī * (ʿ)
He was one of those who pledged under the Tree (Bayʿat al-Riḍwān).
He is credited with several hadiths.
Those who narrated from him include his sons—Saʿd, Muḥammad, ʿAbd al-Malik, and Rabīʿ—as well as Ṭāriq ibn Shihāb, Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn, Abū Wāʾil, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maʿqil, Abū ʿUbaydah ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, and others.
He taught hadith in Kūfa and in Baṣra—so it appears to me.
