Al-Aṣmaʿī related: Hishām ibn Saʿd—known as Ṣāḥib al-Maḥāmil—narrated to us from his father that Ḥakīm ibn Ḥizām said, “Whenever morning comes and no one in need is standing at my door, I know that this is one of the trials for which I hope Allah will reward me.” ⦗1⦘
Al-Haytham, al-Madāʾinī, Abū ʿUbayd, and Shabbāb state that he died in 54 AH.
It is also said that people entered upon Ḥakīm at the time of his death while he was repeating, “There is no god but Allah. I used to fear You, and today I place my hope in You.” ⦗2⦘
Ḥakīm was a foremost authority on genealogy, possessed deep legal insight, and held a lofty rank.
The hadiths he narrates with his own chain number forty ⦗3⦘, and the two Ṣaḥīḥs contain four hadiths from him on which both Imams agree. ⦗4⦘
