Ibn Isḥāq, on the authority of ʿĀmir ibn Wahb, said:
Al-Mughīrah set out with six men from Banū Mālik for Egypt on a trading expedition. When they reached Buzāq (1) he attacked them, slaughtered them, drove off the caravan, and then embraced Islam (2).
Hushaym narrated to us, from Mujālid, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Mughīrah, who said:

Muḥāḍir transmitted the same report from ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal, from al-Shaʿbī.
Al-Wāqidī said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī related to us, from his father, from his grandfather:
When al-Mughīrah flung his ring into the grave, ʿAlī said, “Let people not say that you descended into the grave of the Prophet of Allah, nor that your ring remains in his grave.” Then ʿAlī himself went down and handed it to him.

They said, “Command us.”
He said, “Gather one hundred thousand; I will take it to ʿUmar and say, ‘Al-Mughīrah misappropriated this and gave it to me.’”
