The Remaining Leading Companions
1 – Abū Bakrah al-Thaqafī al-Ṭāʾifī, Nufayʿ ibn al-Ḥārith* (ʿ), the Prophet’s freedman, ﷺ.
His given name is Nufayʿ ibn al-Ḥārith, though some say it was Nufayʿ ibn Masrūḥ.
During the siege of Ṭāʾif he let himself down from the fortress with a bucket, fled to the Prophet ﷺ, accepted Islam at his hands, and, having informed him that he was a slave, was set free by him. (1)
He narrated a fair number of hadiths.
Those who reported from him include his four sons—ʿUbayd Allāh, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, and Muslim—as well as Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī, al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, and Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn,

Al-Bukhari also records the report (8/36–37) in the Book of Military Expeditions, chapter “The Campaign of Taif”, through the isnad of Shuba from ʿAsim ibn Sulayman, who said: “I heard Abu ʿUthman al-Nahdi say: I heard Saʿd—who was the first to shoot an arrow in the path of Allah—and Abu Bakra—who had scaled the fortress of Taif with a group of men and then came to the Prophet—both say: We heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declare: ‘Whoever knowingly claims descent from someone other than his own father, Paradise is forbidden to him.’”
