I said, “For my mother.”
He replied, “Eat it, and we will give you two dates in return for her.” (1)
ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us: Abū Kathīr al-Suḥaymī—whose name was Yazīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān—told me that Abū Hurayrah said:
“By Allah, no believer who hears my name except that he loves me.”
I asked, “How can you be sure of that?”
He answered, “My mother was a polytheist, and I used to invite her to Islam, but she always refused. One day I urged her again, and she spoke about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in words I detested. I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ weeping, informed him of what she had said, and asked him to supplicate for her.
He said, ‘O Allah, guide the mother of Abū Hurayrah.’
“I rushed home to bring her the good news. When I arrived I found the door closed; I heard the sound of water, and she heard my footsteps. She called out, ‘Stay where you are.’ Then she opened the door, wearing her tunic and hastening without her head-cover, and declared: ‘I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.’
“I returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, weeping for joy just as I had wept from grief, and told him what had happened. Then I said, ‘Pray to Allah to make me and my mother beloved to His believing servants.’
He supplicated, ‘O Allah, make this servant of Yours and his mother beloved to Your believing servants, and make the believers beloved to them.’” (2)

Al-Jurayrī reported from Abū Naḍrah, from al-Ṭufāwī, who said:
