Baqiyyah ibn al-Walīd said: “His name was Lāshūmah ibn Jurthūmah.”
Khalīfah ibn Khayyāṭ maintained that his name was Lāshiq ibn Jurhum, and he added: “It is also said that he was Jurthūmah ibn Nāshij,” while others simply called him Jurhum.
Al-Bardanji, in Al-Asmāʾ al-Mufradah, recorded his name as Jurthūmah. Still other designations have been mentioned, yet he is scarcely known except by his kunya.
Al-Dāraqutnī and others said: “He was among those who pledged at al-Ridwān; the Prophet ﷺ allotted him a share on the day of Khaybar and sent him to his people.”
His brother, ʿAmr ibn Jurhum, embraced Islam during the Prophet’s lifetime. ⦗1⦘
Ahmad, in his Musnad, relates: “ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us; he said: Maʿmar narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Abū Qilābah, from Abū Thaʿlabah, who said:
I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Write me a deed for such-and-such a land in Syria’—at that time the Prophet ﷺ had not yet taken possession of it. He replied, ‘Do you not hear what this man is asking?’ Abū Thaʿlabah then said, ‘By Him in whose hand is my soul, we shall most certainly gain mastery over it.’ So the Prophet wrote it for him.” ⦗2⦘
Abū ʿUbayd also transmitted it in Al-Amwāl: “Ibn ʿUlayyah narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Abū Qilābah, that Abū Thaʿlabah said …,” and he reported something similar.
It was likewise transmitted by Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah, from Ayyūb, with similar wording.
ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Dimashqī narrated: from Ibn Jābir, from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUbayd Allah, who said:
“While Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī and Kaʿb were sitting together, Abū Thaʿlabah said: ‘O Abā…’”
